How Come the Doctors Who Perform Lasik Surgery Still Wear Glasses?
Someone said to me, "if lasik surgery is so effective, then how come the doctors doing it still wear glasses? Why don't they get it done too?" So now I am wondering the same thing.

Do some reading up on the possible complications associated with the surgery, and you can pretty much figure it out. Although it's not a high percentage, some folks experience halos and double vision afterwards. It also increases the likelyhood you will need bifocals later on. Opthamologists make their living using their eyes, and they aren't likely to take any chances with messing them up. It doesn't necessarily mean that it's not a good option for other folks, but it could end their careers- so they stick with glasses. It's not much different than a singer with a deviated septum electing not to have the nose job because it will change how their voice sounds. For you or I, that's not a big deal. But when you make your living as an opera star- well, that's a different story. You aren't going to do anything you don't absolutely have to do, because it could mean an end to your career. Opthamologists take pretty much the same view of lasik surgery.

LikeDislikelasix surgery is elective and carries risks of infection, decreased vision, dry eyes, death, etc. the doctors aren't as vain as their patients.

LikeDislikeI see it as being the same reason plastic surgeons often look like they've never had plastic surgery themselves. They know it's risky and and can often have bad results and it's not worth it for them to take those kinds of chances.

LikeDislikeWell first off let me say that i am a doctor... of sorts. The answer to your question is quite simple really. Most doctors in the field of optical surgery have a genetic anomaly in their 11th X chromosome. This defect does not allow a successful optical surgery to take place. Most of these doctors choose their field of work due to their own diagnosis of this gentic disease and they long to correct the problem with the current lasik surgery. Which reminds me of an experience i had while i was an intern at NASA. While designing a prototype partical accellerator a rogue gravitron escaped from the accelerators magnetic pole and damaged the retina of my dear co-worker Dave Lavery. Because of his damaged 11th chromosome he could not have the surgery procedure and was left with no eyesight in his left eye.

LikeDislikeIt is because this surgery is not for everyone.
Some people have certain medical conditions that will be affected if they get this surgery.
They risk going legally blind, seeing spots, blurred vision, extreme dry eyes. It is very important to get a few Dr. opinions before making the initial decision.
A lot of people make the mistake of just getting the procedure done with out consulting with their physicians to see if it's right for them.

LikeDislikeWell, obviously they are too old or the problem is that they cannot perform lasik surgery on themselves. If they could then that would save them a lot of money

LikeDislikeNot everyone is a good candidate for eye surgery and some people still require glasses afterward. Not every hairstylist has a pixie cut. Plus they might like the way they look in glasses. I think glasses compliment my head shape and I think people tend to think you're smarter if you wear glasses.

LikeDislikeHi,
LASIK or Laser-Assisted In-Situ Keratomileusis is a 30-minute healthcare procedure used to treat vision problems due to nearsightedness. LASIK is a very popular vision correction procedure and involves making a surgical incision in the cornea. The patient is given numbing drops, after which a suction ring is placed over the eye. The surgeon cuts a small flap in the center of the cornea using a knife called a microkeratome and folds this back to create an opening. The laser is then directed inside the eye, vaporizing the tissue and reshaping the cornea for accurate focusing. The lasering actually lasts about just 30-60 seconds only. The flap is then replaced. The healing process is a lot faster in LASIK. This procedure reduces a person%u2019s dependency on glasses and contact lenses and thereby improves the quality of life.
Asian countries like india, singapore , thailand etc are the best places for lasik surgery.

Annie

LikeDislikeWhat a fantastic post! I am often intrigued by other people see me compared to how I see myself. What do I like about myself? Well, physically I like my eyes and I am tired of not being able to see them because they are always behind glasses so I am on the phone right now inquiring about laser eye surgery.
This is something I have wanted to do for years.

LikeDislikeYesss! Baby food!! I have not seen that brand apple/butternut squash. I feel like such a weirdo shopping in the baby food aisle with all the moms
I used to get cysts in my eyes!! Hasn't happened in a few years though, but it's definitely weird. I've been scheduled to go in for laser eye surgery a couple times to get them removed, and then they always went away before the appointment came up...
