Why Is PRK Preferred Over LASIK if You Want to Become a Pilot?
Is it impossible to become a pilot if you have had LASIK? Why is PRK preferred over LASIK? Eye doctors and opthalmologists under you, can you give an answer to this? PRK has a longer recovery period, but still is it safer than LASIK, which seems to have a very fast recovery compared to LASIK? Can anyone recommend a good web site where I can get all this kind of information?
Tags: fast recovery, United States, longer recovery period, Medical Specialtiespilots get prk
I may not be getting this 100% correct, but my sister is trying to become a pilot and she had to get PRK because of the fact that LASIK involves peeling back a layer of the eye, making the correction, then relaying that layer. The thing is, is that the layer never really "heals", and if you ever have further corrections made, they no longer need peel back a layer as that cut was made in the initial surgery. Pilots are put under more strenuous conditions, so they need PRK. I would recommend looking up more info about what PRK and LASIK are on wikipedia or other sites.

LikeDislikePRK does not leave the flap of eye "skin" that LASIK does since pilots undergo G forces and can't have their eye getting messed up mid flight PRK is the preferred method. I'm sure LASIK will be approved for flight after some testing but if I was trying to be a pilot I would not risk it. Although my 10 seconds googling it found this http://www.clearsight.com/index.cfm/news/news32 which says LASIK is already approved for military pilots so I'm sure it is for all.

LikeDislikeThat is approximately 500,000 people. Why are they blind? For one thing, they cannot afford the usual P25,000.00/eye charged by eye doctors. Another factor is that they cannot even afford the 500.00 consultation fee. So, what alternatives do these people have? To just go Blind? At least some eye doctors are trying to implement systems that are already tested in places like India (Aravind Hospital for example http://www.aravind.org),where I trained, is the worlds most efficient eye care system for the poor. We filipinos should open our eyes and finally realized that we are a DIRT POOR COUNTRY. We act as if we are first world.

LikeDislike#1 on the list of must haves is good communication. Tell me how long it's going to take, tell me if that changes, tell me how much it's going to cost up front, have a good and clears explanation if that changes and give me options. A price list on line and a good web site are really helpful, better still a description of the services offered that a non-gunsmith can understand. #1 turn off - 'attitude' - any sign of the 'you must worship at the church of ' to be worthy of getting my work is a turn off. No matter how good you are if you have a backlog be clear about it and if you prioritize some work (example for LEO's) say so.

LikeDislikeOk, NOT pushing you into a hysterectomy. As I told you, I've had both the myo and hyster.
My myomectomy was surgical. It is definitely a longer recovery period, I have no idea why. And I went on to have two more babies after it. HOWEVER, the myo plus the following c-section is what made Dylan come so early because of the scar tissue. And that's what caused the hysto.
On the Hysto side, if they leave the eggs and just take the uterus, you don't need to take hormones. At least, I didn't. I've read that evenutally the ovaries die because of lack of blood flow, but that hasn't happened to me yet. (it's been a little more than 2 years)
Whichever you choose, I know you'll make the best decision possible. None of the options is great, but the situation sucks too.
Gotta say, though, I love my hysto -- no periods rock!!

He took time out because the Ospreys were perpetually rushing his recovery period following injuries. As a result he was always back and injured again very quickly. Effectively he took his future into his own hands. Basically his only real ambition left in rugby is to play in a RWC. In the mean time his relationship with Church broke down. As for the Saracens thing. That was entirely their fault. The pretences under which they signed him were no longer valid. He found himself with a different coach to the one who signed him. One that happened to favour his own son in the position Henson was signed to play and picked a journeyman in Henson's ideal position. The situation was completely untenable and Henson, rightfully, looked after himself because nobody at Saracens was. WRT the fighting. People need to live in the real world. I've heard of 4/5 major internationals fighting since then. It happens. It was inflated by Toulon who were looking to [...]

LikeDislikeActually, many graduate students, researchers, and professors are denied entry to the United States to present their work in conferences or workshops. Although, the number of Visas issued to such category is increased recently, still many others are denied Visa. This behavior from the United States caused many researchers to move conference venues to Europe instead of the United States!

LikeDislikeOf all the careers on this list, the ranking for Medical Specialists is probably least accurate.
Here's a good picture of what specialists in private practice in the US actually make:
Quite a few medical specialties including radiology, many surgical specialties, and cardiology have median salaries of $400,000 and above.
If these compensation numbers were used, medical specialists would clearly have the highest career ROI of any field. Having said that, cherry-picking data sources for different fields is highly problematic, and so I have not done so. Still, it's a mystery to me why the BLS data seems to low-ball the salaries of medical specialists so significantly. I believe this may because almost 50% of many specialists' income is technically profit sharing, since they are owners of their practices, rather than traditional employment income. Nevertheless, they generate that income through their own physical work, and so it should be counted.
